Are You Coachable or Worthless?

Leading Advisor - Are You Coachable?I always send my clients a Coaching Call Follow E-mail and here is a recent excerpt from one of my E-mails.

You started off our call by asking me: “Am I coachable?”

Let me ask you this:

  • Are you able to create a financial vision for your clients?
  • Are you able to write a financial plan for your clients?
  • Based on the financial plan for your clients, are you able to make recommendations about investments?
  • Based on the financial plan for your clients, are you able to make recommendations about life insurance?
  • Based on the financial plan for your clients, are you able to make recommendations about critical illness insurance?
  • Based on the financial plan for your clients, are you able to make recommendations about disability illness insurance?
  • Are you able to write a business plan for yourself?
  • Are you able to follow your business plan?
  • Are you able to manage your time?
  • Are you able to delegate?

Who is asking the question, am I coachable? It can only be the amygdala, ego, or limbic brain that would ask that question because if you are not coachable, then the same would be not true for the rest of the questions. If all of this is not true then it would mean that you are not worth coaching.  It is the amygdala, ego, and limbic brain trying to control you and prove that you are worthless.

Bob Dylan was asked, “How do you handle fortune and fame?” Bob answered, “Don’t let the guy in the back seat do the driving,” meaning the dysfunctional amygdala, ego, or limbic mind.

Since about 1954, the limbic system of the brain has been implicated as the seat of emotion, addiction, mood, and many other mental and emotional processes. It is the part of the brain that is phylogenetic ally; very primitive. Many people call it “The Lizard Brain” because the limbic system is about all a lizard has for brain function. It is in charge of fight, flight, feeding, fear, freezing-up, and many negative emotions that occur in us almost subconsciously, without control, if we are unaware.

The amygdala, ego, or limbic brain doesn’t know the difference between present day and the past.

The amygdala, ego, or limbic brain is trying to seduce you back to a memory that is at the core of your self doubt. Then the amygdala, ego, or limbic brain seduces you with busy work, trying to medicate your unmet needs, negative emotion and negative beliefs going from one thing to the next thing to next thing fueled by trying to prove that you are worthless, by you starting and completing very little.

During our call I talked about you taking Friday and Saturday to Clear and Empty Your Mind to get to your True Values Based Focus laying the foundation to create a Business and Time Management Plan for 2015. This will create a strong foundation underneath you and your business and create a strong foundation for going forward into the future.

You talked with me about forming a partnership with other advisors.

Do you want to form a partnership standing on a strong business and personal foundation where one of the key leaders ( you ) has a clear mind, plan and time management plan so there is commitment and consistency, or do you want to build a partnership standing on quicksand?

Without you taking the necessary actions now, this looks like a recipe for disaster … the blind leading the blind.

But, perhaps this is what you need to do to finally get the leverage that is required for you to make sustainable change.

They say that life is about messages. If you get the message you create an attainment. If you don’t get the message, then you create problems. If you don’t fix the problems, then you create a crisis. Then you get the message.
