Personal Reflections

For a couple of reasons, there is some irony in the title of the next article in this E-Newsletter, Are You In The Middle Of Nowhere When It Comes To Hiring?

In the month of December we have be working with at least five of our clients with helping them hire new assistants and providing them with assessments all the way to looking after the entire project.

I have just come to the conclusion that I am going to hire an assistant to assist me with staying organized and the assistant will start March 1st right after Laura and I return from Maui. Laura and I will be celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary where we were married on Makena Beach in Maui in May 2003.

While I have been 101% associated to adding value to my clients, I have been having a tougher time staying on top of some of the many business activities that are essential to the continued success of the business.

As an example, for those of you that have been reading my Blog, you probably noticed that I have cut it back from a daily Blog every business day down to two or three times a week. I’m finding that after taking a break from the “daily Blog every business day”, I am beginning to miss it as it has become a part of my routine as it adds value to both my readers and to myself as it creates a healthy form of meeting my need of approval while expressing my values of encouragement, service, teaching, understanding and wisdom.

I believe that we all have unmet needs and it is very important to stay conscious about getting ones’ unmet needs met in healthy ways because if they don’t they will dull their attraction because of becoming vulnerable to limiting beliefs and limiting emotions … and then attraction will work in the negative and we don’t want that.

Healthy conscious ways on the internal side can include giving thanks, journaling, meditation, prayer, reading, and connecting with nature. Healthy conscious ways on the external side can include community service, listening to inspirational music, watching inspirational movies and even writing a Blog. It is up to you. You make the list and above all stay conscious of meeting the unmet need whether it be approval, recognition, safety or worthiness which are just a few of the hundreds of unmet needs. The point is beware of falling unconscious about trying to get your unmet needs met through people, possessions, positions, etc.

As much as I tried writing a daily blog ever since I started blogging on February 26, 2005, I backed it off on October 25, 2007 - Daily Blog Fahrenheit 951.

After completing 950 blog entries, no matter how hard I tried, I could not crack the 1000 Blog mark and then I cut back to blogging two to three times a week.

By late October, I realized that I was giving so much energy to my coaching clients and public speaking that my creative energy was waning. I was falling into the trap of giving and giving and giving to everyone else and I wasn’t getting my own unmet needs met, and it was getting harder to see, hear, and feel the expression of my values.

The irony is that even though I wrote the following excerpt from the Fahrenheit 951 Blog, I wasn’t seeing, hearing or feeling the experience;

I had only just walked in the door and was greeted by gentleman from The Financial Planning Counsel making the recommendation that I speak at their next conference.

I attended a number of quality speaking presentations over the course of the day and was greeted with positive comments about my presentation over the course of the day and the last one was as follows;

"Your presentation was a breath of fresh air. People don't appreciate what you have gone through to develop what you have created. We will be in touch."

In order to recharge my batteries, the Blogging is one area where I have slowed my pace down … at the same time, I cut myself off from a form of meeting the unmet need of approval.

My exercise routine was also falling apart from doing a 10 - 12km power cycle 3 - 4 times per week, down to one.

I started getting back on track with this in mid November and I began documenting my December progress on my Blog;

Exercise Log

Following through on my commitment to complete my 10 - 12km power cycles 3 - 4 times per week.

December Week 1

1. Sunday, December 2nd
2. Monday, December 3rd
3. Wednesday, December 5th
4. Friday, December 7th

December Week 2

1. Sunday, December 9th
2. Monday, December 10th
3. Wednesday, December 12th
4. Saturday, December 15th

Another area of slowing my pace down was in organizing my files, ideas and notes … not by choice.

When I am organized, I am in flow.

Failing to keep myself organized compounded my disapproval in myself which took even more energy away from me. I grew up in a very disorganized environment so it is important for me to stay organized as disorganization can pull me into the past.

So to get back on track I am going to hire an assistant to assist me with staying organized to start March 1st and we are going to start the hiring process the first week in January using the same process that we use when we work with our clients. Here is a draft of the job description itemized by the area of business that the action relates to:

Administration
  • Transcribe and organize Simon’s business notes
  • Create and maintain filing system for Simon’s business topics
Computer
  • Maintain Outlook – Put e-mails into separate folders
  • Maintain computer files – Put files into separate folders
Office
  • Inventory books – Advise best of to be posted to Web Site
Clients
  • Audio and text transcriptions
    • Transcribe Simon’s coaching notes
    • Forward audio transcriptions to virtual assistant for transcription to text
    • Send Simon’s coaching notes, audio transcriptions and text transcriptions to clients
    • Review coaching material for articles, blogs and e-newsletters
    • File client notes
Team
  • Work with virtual assistant for transcription to text

Blog & E-newsletter

  • Research copy and quotes
  • Pre-draft from Simon’s coaching notes, audio transcriptions and text transcriptions to clients

Book

  • Pre-edit

What is interesting is, as soon as I wrote the draft job description my creative energy started to come back along with some additional approval.

Getting published once in a national magazine is a bit of a fluke. Getting published twice is the real thing.

I just received word that I will be published in the February 2008 edition of The Advocis FORUM Magazine.

This Blog from last week expands on what I am talking about.

December 14, 2007 - Are You Lost In A Sea Of Overwhelm?

iStock_000004169096XSmall.jpg

It’s 2pm on Thursday, December 13th and I am just putting the finishing touches on the article that I am writing for The Advocis FORUM Magazine.

Then it is smooth sailing towards cleaning up my files and office from the past two weeks of client work and then it is smooth sailing and preparing for the 2008 planning session that Laura and I will have on Friday & Monday.

Then it is Tuesday - Friday of back to back coaching calls to the 21st and then we are off from coaching calls until January 7th.

So given we are going on a celebratory voyage ( flight ) to Maui in February to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary when we were married in Maui … do I;

A) work a few days over the holidays
B) give myself lots of approval and generate peace and just take the time off

These questions are still on the table.

Here’s the beginning of the article that I am writing for The Advocis FORUM Magazine.

Is Your Voyage Still On Course For 2008?

Do you still have the inspiration that you set out with on your voyage of 2008? Do you have clarity of vision? Is your business plan written? Is your time management system in place? Is your expense and income budget complete? Do you have well defined 90 day goals? Are you and your team all taking consistent action towards reaching your goals for 2008?

Are you lost in a sea of overwhelm?

After writing this E-Newsletter I’ve concluded that I am not choosing A or B;

A) work a few days over the holidays on my book
B) give myself lots of approval and generate peace and just take the time off

I’m choosing;

C) take time off from December 23rd – 30th along with New Year’s Day. Work the mornings to early afternoon on the 31st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th on my 2008 planning and organization. The book is on hold because …

Are You in the Middle of Nowhere When it Comes to Hiring?

iStock_000002021513XSmall.jpg

Would You Like To Get Away From Feeling Like You Are In The Middle Of Nowhere When Hiring Assistants, Junior Advisors And Marketing Assistants?

We have been successfully assisting our financial advisor clients for years with attracting and hiring the above noted positions to attract a functional and sustainable hire that will not turn into your next “Fatal Hiring Attraction”.

Hiring is all about getting clear about what you want and working with the laws of attraction to attract what you want versus focusing on what you don’t want.

The definition of hiring insanity is trying to hire using the same negative beliefs about hiring and using the same outdated system over and over again and expecting different results.

What’s sad is this same old pattern usually causes individuals to give up trying to hire because they believe it is impossible to attract the right hire and they stay stuck and continue to do $20.00 per hour work which holds them back in both their business and personal lives.

Here are the steps that we take when we work with a client to attract a functional and sustainable hire.

We can assist you with some or all of the following steps. If you would like to have a conversation about your hiring project, please call or e-mail me at 1 877 248 6012 or sreilly@leadingadvisor.com.

Steps To Attracting A Functional And Sustainable Hire

  1. Interview client and create job description. We really help the client dig into what they want to do and what “don’t” they want to do.
  2. Assess the Values & Behaviors that the position requires. This creates a benchmark or a gauge to make sure that we are hiring the person that has the Values & Behaviors for the position. Values equal why a person does what they do and Behaviors equals how a person does what they do. A Values & Behaviors match will make sure that the person has the staying power for the position. This process also eliminates finding out that the person that you hired is someone else in six months time.
  3. Write the Employment Ad so the client can submit the Ad.
  4. Receive resumes on behalf of client.
  5. Send acknowledgement of receipt of resumes, our Introduction and an explanation of our hiring process to candidates.
  6. Review resumes, shortlist and send thank you letter to those that do not qualify.
  7. Send e-mail questionnaire to qualified candidates.
  8. Shortlist again and send thank you letter to those that do not qualify.
  9. Telephone interview w/ Leading Advisor.
  10. Shortlist again and send thank you letter to those that do not qualify.
  11. Reference checks.
  12. Send Values & Behaviors Assessment to candidate for completion.
  13. Shortlist again and send thank you letter to those that do not qualify.
  14. Telephone call with client to discuss short-listed candidates.
  15. Final candidates advised that they will be meeting with client. Candidates and client appointments arranged to meet with client in his office.
  16. All information relevant to final candidates is sent to client for his review as well.
  17. Live interview with client.
  18. Final decision made by client.
  19. Debrief client after new assistant starts.
  20. Debrief assistant after new assistant starts.
Left on my own it would have been easy to make a serious hiring mistake. I didn’t realize that there was so much involved with the hiring process. Leading Advisor’s hiring system and support is tremendous. Laura is fantastic and very knowledgeable and handled the entire process in a professional manor. I was very impressed with the procedure that involved the assessments and questions that helped me understand a process that determines “this is why a candidate will make a great assistant” and “this is why they will not”. It made my job so much easier saving me an incredible amount of time enabling me to whittle down the applicants down to a successful hiring decision and I feel confident about our decision and I am very pleased with the results.

To make sure that you hit the ground running in 2008 I’ve included As You Approach 2008, Are You 100% Confident?

For additional value, you can find everything I know about Vision & Goals by reading through my past December E-Newsletters;

December 2006 E-Newsletter
December 2005 E-Newsletter
December 2004 E-Newsletter

Eliminating Procrastination Part 2

To segue to Eliminating Procrastination - Part 2, I’m starting this article with the following four paragraphs from Eliminating Procrastination - Part 1.

“Divine Revelation simply means adjusting your brain to hear what your heart already knows”.  “Each of us knows all.  We only need to open our minds to hear our own wisdom”. - Dan Brown - The Da Vinci Code

It is not the Super Conscious Self or your Soul Self that is in FEAR.

It is the Dysfunctional part of your Ego that is in FEAR because of its unmet needs of worthiness, security, perfection, recognition, power and control.

These unmet needs are the source of all limiting beliefs and fear based emotions and you must invest the time to get your Ego’s unmet needs met and clear your Ego’s limiting beliefs and Ego’s fear based emotions.

So how do these last statements apply to YOUR 90 Day Goals, YOUR Quarterly Review and Eliminating Procrastination?

Well if YOU are reading this then let’s assume that YOU didn’t reach YOUR 90 Day Goals and one of the reasons was because of Procrastination and YOU were Procrastinating because of a;

Fear of;

  • Abandonment
  • Change
  • Embarrassment
  • Emotional Pain
  • Error
  • Failing
  • Feeling
  • Intimacy
  • Judgment
  • Rejection
  • Success
  • The Unknown

And again it is not YOU that is in Fear, it is YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind that is in Fear.

So here is an assignment on;

How To Clear YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind’s Unmet Needs, Limiting Beliefs & Limiting Emotions.  The way that YOU Clear is through Journaling, and Journaling serves a number of purposes here;

  • Adjusting YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind to hear what YOU, YOUR HEART already knows
  • Interrupting YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind’s Patten of continually reviewing the same Unmet Needs, Limiting Beliefs & Limiting Emotions.  As John Kehoe says in Mind Power, “Thoughts are real forces”.  YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind will create whatever it is that it continues to focus on.
  • “Gets YOU out of YOUR head” as they say or more specifically “Gets YOU out of YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind” and to quote Michael Gerber;

When YOU hear something, YOU will forget it.
When YOU see something, YOU will remember it.
But not until YOU do something, will YOU understand it.

The journaling is the “do” and once YOU understand then YOU are free.

  • YOU have heard the expression “YOU have to feel it to heal it”.  The journaling allows YOU to once and for all allow YOU to Clear YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind’s Unmet Needs, Limiting Beliefs & Limiting Emotions.  By not becoming Clear about YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind’s Unmet Needs, Limiting Beliefs & Limiting Emotions, the Dysfunctional Ego Mind takes charge of YOU and continues to remind YOU of the mistaken reality that the Dysfunctional Ego Mind continually creates through its Unmet Needs, Limiting Beliefs & Limiting Emotions.
  • You may have heard the expression “YOU don’t have a secret, the secret has YOU”.  By not journaling YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind’s Unmet Needs, Limiting Beliefs & Limiting Emotions and stuffing them or denying them, then YOU allow YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind to convince YOU that they are all real.  The Unmet Needs, Limiting Beliefs & Limiting Emotions are only real to YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind.
  • As an example, YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind’s Unmet Need of worthiness creates a Limiting Belief of “I am not good enough” or “There must be something wrong with me” and these Limiting Beliefs generate Limiting Emotions of shame, sadness etc. (when one considers 90 Day goals that were not met).  And so the cycle of self loathing just continues.
  • Nothing unreal exists unless YOU allow YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind to make it so.  By Clearing, YOU Clear out what is unreal.
  • Last but not least, “Whatever YOU resist persists”.  Clearing will set YOU free.
  • Clearing will get YOU back in touch with the energy of Creation that was present when YOU came into “Being”.

So to bring this all into perspective, let’s say that YOU did not meet YOUR 90 day goal of “Achieving Your 90 Day Goals”.

The way to Clear the way to feeling fulfilled so that YOU can take action for YOUR next set of 90 Day goals is …

Step 1

First understand that the Dysfunctional Ego Mind is consumed with the following 6 basic Unmet Needs; worthiness, security, perfection, recognition, control and to be right.

An Unmet Need cannot be met from the outside in.

The way to get a need met once and for all is do the following journaling on a daily basis;

I observe my Unmet Need of “perfection” is being met whenever I “acknowledge” myself for taking the following action towards my 90 Day Goals and the action is “getting up in time to go to the gym”.

You can do this with any Unmet Need and any action as follows;

I observe my Unmet Need of _________________ is being met whenever I; _________________.

The above statement is observing what is true for YOU and not what is true for the Dysfunctional Ego Mind.

The Dysfunctional Ego Mind wants YOU to focus on all the times that YOU did not get up in time to go to the gym. Therefore, YOU must be a loser; therefore, YOU have no hope; therefore, YOU have a deep feeling of despair; therefore, YOU may as well quit; therefore, YOU may as well eat, or sleep or whatever The Dysfunctional Ego Mind’s choice of distraction is.

As YOU can see that even though YOU are taking action to observe that YOU are meeting your Unmet Need through the journaling; there are bound to be Limiting Beliefs that are below the surface.

Step 2

YOUR next step is to flush out all the Limiting Beliefs that YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind and YOU are stuffing below the surface in the back of YOUR mind.  Again, whatever YOU resist persists.  By pushing the Limiting Beliefs below the surface, YOU and YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind continues to make them real.  This goes along with “YOU don’t have a secret, the secret has YOU”.  By trying to defend that the Limiting Beliefs are not real by pushing them below the surface, YOU and YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind YOU make the Limiting Beliefs & Limiting Emotions real by this process.

The idea of the journaling is to let it out or Clear it.

In YOUR journal, divide a page into two columns.  On the left hand side of the page, write down all the Limiting Beliefs that YOUR  Dysfunctional Ego Mind has about not making your 90 Day Goals.

Here is an example;

I'm not good enough to reach my goals.
My 90 day goals is just too big.
I am not smart enough.
I am too young.
I am too old.
I am too tired.

Next, in the right had column of the page write down positive beliefs that are opposite of the limiting beliefs in the left hand column.

I'm not good enough to reach my goals. I have an abundant amount of talent.
My 90 day goals is just too big. I have the energy to meet any goal that I set.
I am not smart enough. I am intelligent.
I am too young. Youth is an asset.
I am too old. I have wisdom with age.
I am too tired. I have an enormous amount of energy.

The point of the exercise is to do two things.  One is to empty YOUR subconscious mind onto paper of every Limiting Belief that YOU can think of on behalf of YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind.

Second, the Positive Beliefs will remind YOU of what is true.

Step 3

Your next step is to flush out all the Limiting Emotions that YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind is stuffing below the surface in the subconscious mind.  Again, whatever YOU resist persists.  By pushing the Limiting Emotions below the surface, YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind continues to make them real.  This goes along with “YOU don’t have a secret, the secret has YOU”.

In YOUR journal, divide a page into two columns.  On the left hand side of the page, write down all the Limiting Emotions that YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind has about not making YOUR 90 Day Goals.

Here is an example;

I'm feeling angry for not making my 90 day goals
I'm feeling frustrated for not making my 90 day goals.
I'm feeling sad not making my 90 day goals.
I'm feeling unhappy not making my 90 day goals.
I'm feeling depressed not making my 90 day goals.
I'm feeling anxious not making my 90 day goals.

Next, in the right had column of the page write down Positive Feelings that are opposite of the Limiting Emotions in the left hand column.

I'm feeling angry for not making my 90 day goals. I feel strength knowing that I have the new systems and tools to reach my new 90 day goals.
I'm feeling frustrated for not making my 90 day goals. I feel clear and focused knowing that I have the systems and tools to reach my new 90 day goals.
I'm feeling sad not making my 90 day goals. I feel passionate knowing that I have the systems and tools to reach my new 90 day goals.
I'm feeling unhappy not making my 90 day goals. I feel happy knowing that I have the systems and tools to reach my new 90 day goals.
I'm feeling depressed not making my 90 day goals. I feel inspired knowing that I have the systems and tools to reach my new 90 day goals.
I'm feeling anxious not making my 90 day goals. I feel certain knowing that I have the systems and tools to reach my new 90 day goals.

The point of the exercise is to do two things.  One is to empty the subconscious mind onto paper of every Limiting Emotion that YOU can think of on behalf of YOUR Dysfunctional Ego Mind.

Second, the Positive Feelings will remind YOU of what is true.

In closing this is not a quick fix and one Clearing will not create long lasting and sustainable results.

Jim Rohn said, “Success is a few simple disciplines practiced every single day!”

As You Approach 2008, Are You 100% Confident?

Do you agree with what most Financial Advisors say that they really want?

Over the course of this year I have talked with countless financial advisors and they all pretty much agree on what they want more of and less of the following:

  • More appreciation
  • More big picture vision
  • More confidence
  • More energy
  • More high net worth clients
  • More or better customer service and marketing systems
  • More profit
  • More profitable clients
  • More quality referrals
  • More recognition for their work
  • More team work
  • More time for planning
  • More time for themselves and their family
  • Less busy work
  • Less distraction
  • Less or fewer unprofitable products
  • Less overhead
  • Less paperwork
  • Less unprofitable and demanding clients
Even though Financial Advisors say what they want, why are they unwilling to do what it takes to make the changes so that they can get what they really want?

To be clear, most Financial Advisors are successful and are great at what they do.  I am talking about getting better.

The number one thing that stops most Financial Advisors from taking action is Fear and through fear they are stuck in survival.

In their mind, they are just hanging on now.

They operate from the place of, "if they were to make a change, what if it doesn't work?"  Again, in their mind they are just hanging on now.

We are talking about "limiting beliefs" that are preventing the advisor from making the change.  At the same time, the limiting beliefs are associated to limiting emotions, in this case fear.  Limiting beliefs are linked to limiting emotions and these are linked to unmet needs.  Limiting beliefs, limiting emotions and unmet needs all play off one another.

I have an expression, "You don't have "limiting beliefs, limiting emotions and unmet needs - they have you".

These limiting beliefs, limiting emotions and unmet needs all play into a story.

Are you being honest with yourself?  What is the story that holds you back?

Limiting beliefs, limiting emotions and unmet needs all play into a story that you made up about yourself a long time ago.

Your destiny and your story will not change unless you do something about changing it.  You've heard the expression, "for things to change then you must change".

You are struggling because you are hanging onto your story because in your mind, that is all you have.  Who would you be without your story?

Your story isn't about growth.  If it was, you would be successful beyond your wildest dreams.

Your story is about survival and maintaining the business, the spouse, the kids, the friends, the house, the wardrobe, the cars, the cottage, the boat, the timeshare, the two - three holidays a year, the golf membership, the personal trainer and your investments.

Your story is about survival.

Your "survival" story relates again to limiting beliefs, limiting emotions and unmet needs and here are some examples:

  • Limiting Beliefs;  I don't have enough money.  I don't have enough time.
  • Limiting Emotion;  Fear
  • Unmet Need;  Safety
  • Limiting Beliefs;  People don't appreciate what I do for them.  If I make changes what will people think?
  • Limiting Emotion;  Anxiety
  • Unmet Need;  Approval

With this survival story going on below the surface, and in order to not experience the above emotions, you keep working and working and working with these underlying issues believing that more work will solve your problems only to recreate more of the same experiences that you create time and time again.

The reason that this happens is coining a phrase from John Kehoe, "Thoughts are real forces". You continue to create whatever you believe.

Yes you are successful and you do achieve results.  The question is, are you as successful as you really want to be?  The question is, are you truly fulfilled?

Even though you have the business, the spouse, the kids, the friends, the house, the wardrobe, the cars, the cottage, the boat, the timeshare, the two - three holidays a year, the golf membership, the personal trainer and your investments …

Do you truly feel fulfilled?

What is sad is …

With the unmet need of safety fueling the limiting beliefs of, "I don't have enough money" & "I don't have enough time", combined with the limiting emotion of fear, combined with the lack of fulfillment from all the stuff that you bought to fill up the lack of fulfillment, all combine to keep you working and working and working.  This is what is contributing to you not putting in place, the necessary pieces in your business to make you and your business more attractive and profitable.

With the unmet need of approval fueling the limiting beliefs of, "People don't appreciate what I do for them & If I make changes what will people think", combined with the limiting emotion of anxiety, combined with the lack of fulfillment from all the stuff that you bought to fill up the lack of fulfillment, all combine to keep you working and working and working.  This is what is contributing to you not putting in place, the necessary pieces in your business to make you and your business more attractive and profitable.

Could it be that you are still working to prove that you are good enough and that this is what recreates the incompletions that you are experiencing in your business?

  • Limiting Belief;  I am not good enough
  • Limiting Emotion;  Despair
  • Unmet Need;  Prove

Remember Ben Franklin's definition of insanity, "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result".

I'm taking the liberty to change the quote to read,

"Doing the same thing over and over again with the same limiting beliefs, limiting emotions and unmet needs and expecting a different result".

Your story was contrived and imprinted into your mind a long time ago by the experiences and the people that were in your life and you have been working and working to disprove the story ever since “of not being good enough” only to recreate and imprint the same or similar story over and over again.

Your internal limiting beliefs, memories, perceptions and scripts all fit into your story that was deeply imprinted in you a long time ago.  Functional or not, all internal limiting beliefs, memories, perceptions and scripts are the foundation or the base on which you establish all meaning in your life.  In order for you to feel safe you will continue to re-create your story in some way, shape or form repeating the same behaviors over and over again even though they do not work.

My survival based story was based on what my father said to me when I was 7 or 8 years old, "you will never have any money".  One day he also said to me, "you are so selfish, what are people going to think of you".  These two imprinted beliefs were said after my mother and father found me on a mechanical pony ride in a department store while they were shopping.  I was having the time of my life.  I had won a dollar in a long forgotten competition and the money was burning a whole in my pocket so I changed it into dimes and rode the pony while waiting for my mother and father.  No - in later years I didn't go the race track.  :-)  In fact, I've never been to one.

This was an early example of trying to get money to buy me happiness.  At a young age I believed that money would buy me happiness.  I was holding the dollar bill for quite a while and it wasn't making me any happier.  So I thought that I would get rid of it on the pony.  On a deeper level I was likely feeling that there was something wrong with me because the money wasn't making me happy of fulfilled, which is what a lot of people do.

The money doesn't make them happy so they go out and get stuff.  Some are mortal and some are  material that again includes;  the business, the spouse, the kids, the friends, the house, the wardrobe, the cars, the cottage, the boat,  the timeshare, the two - three holidays a year, the golf membership, the personal trainer and your investments …

Do you truly feel fulfilled?

So why was I wanting to get rid of the money which I believed I wanted?  When I was 8 years old, my mother would come to me and tell me that there wasn't any money for groceries or Christmas.  That my father had gone and done it again, that he had bought too much and not sold enough.  My mother and father constantly fought about money.

So I thought if I could get some of it, I would be happy and fulfilled.  On the contrary, once I got some money and when it didn't make me feel happy and fulfilled it reminded me of how unhappy and unfulfilled I really was so I had to get rid of it for something else.

I started at a very young age with the imprinting of my story of not feeling happy and fulfilled.  This drove my need to sell which I worked extremely hard at to create the results.  Then I created the result.  “So what” I thought.  I don't feel happy and fulfilled.  Then I better buy the next thing.  I still don't feel happy and fulfilled and worse yet I don't have any money and time and people don't appreciate me and what will people think!

I better work and work and work and sell and sell and sell versus building a strong personal foundation for my business to stand on.

Subconsciously you keep remembering the story and related stories and you continue to work and work and work to prove that the story is correct.  Without realizing it, you associate all meaning in your life and business based on this story and you will work and work and work to your long term disadvantage to validate this story.

Your story in essence validates your limiting beliefs, limiting emotions and unmet needs and you will mistrust, ignore, disbelieve, invalidate and even attack anything that doesn't fit into your pattern of survival.

Your story has become your religion.

Because that is what you are trying to do is to survive and coming from the place of survival, that is all you will ever do.  You will however survive in a good way again having the business, the spouse, the kids, the friends, the house, the wardrobe, the cars, the cottage, the boat,  the timeshare, the two - three holidays a year, the golf membership, the personal trainer and your investments …

Do you truly feel fulfilled?

"Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result", even though it doesn't work is what is safe and predictable and tricks you into thinking that you are being effective.

When you consider expanding your comfort zone, it is always unpredictable and will likely make you feel even more anxiety so you better go back to the devil that you know.

The repeated patterns of, "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result", even though it doesn't work are familiar.

The familiar and predictable locks you into another set of limiting beliefs of, "maybe this is fate" or "maybe this is all there is" or "maybe I wasn't meant to be successful as I want to be".

The familiar and predictable locks you into repeated patterns of safety and survival trying to get your needs met, combined with limiting beliefs and limiting emotions sabotages your vision, dreams, creativity, intention all leading to despair and to an ever deepening rut.

What is the difference between a rut and a grave?  6 feet.

The compounded repetition and familiarity of this story has become your jailer.

Your story today is you are likely struggling and hanging onto what you have.  What you have has become who you are and you are maintaining your story to survive, even though survival doesn't work which could, in the end, have long term consequences.

So why would you even dare hire a coach to deal with creating more or less of the following?

  • More appreciation
  • More big picture vision
  • More confidence
  • More energy
  • More high net worth clients
  • More or better customer service and marketing systems
  • More profit
  • More profitable clients
  • More quality referrals
  • More recognition for their work
  • More team work
  • More time for planning
  • More time for themselves and their family
  • Less busy work
  • Less distraction
  • Less or fewer unprofitable products
  • Less overhead
  • Less paperwork
  • Less unprofitable and demanding clients
  • Changing your story can be difficult and it is not impossible.
Because your story has become your identity.

The first step is for you to become honest with the fact that you are the one that is creating the story.

Understanding that you are the author of the story that is supported by unmet needs, limiting beliefs and limiting emotions will help in the process, but it requires more.

Most of the time it requires working with someone that is familiar with this kind of work to help you to see your way through the forest and the trees.  Someone that can provide you with the time, understanding, systems and some tough love that will help you to hold yourself to a higher standard.  Through this you will create new and long lasting stories that will eliminate the old stories.

It took years to create the old stories and it will take a long lasting commitment to create and remember the brand new stories that you are creating.

Your new stories will be based upon your true values which generate positive beliefs and positive emotions which create a strong foundation for your vision and business plan.

The good news is, you will create never ending happiness and fulfillment through the process.

Thank you for sharing your time.
