The following Blog entries are

Retreat that we completed on June 25th –

June 29, 2006 – Retreat Response
Now that is a Retreat Room with a View! I thought it
fitting to take this shot just after we completed
the set up of the Retreat Facilitation Room on
Sunday Night.
Here is the response that we received from the
Retreat.
It was all great. Looking forward to working on the
material further, when we get home. The clarity and
direction in your material is great, and I
understand now, the importance of fulfilling my
unmet needs.
Empowerment. It gave me, it showed me parts of my
behavior and who I am, that I didn’t realize that I
had. You’ve explained how I can adapt my behavior to
be more effective within my position, and how to
relate to our clients a lot better.
Understanding my behavior and realizing that my
‘natural style’ is what I should be. I understand
what I need to work on to work more effectively with
my team members, and how this will help our
interaction and enhance the business.
Concise presentation, but direct at the heart of
situations within our organization – strength and
recognition of certain individuals.
What I received from the presentation that I didn’t
expect was the Direction in relationship to the
Roles Exercise. Establishment and preparation of the
Company’s Vision through everyone’s eyes.
What I liked best about the presentation was the
confirmation of my Values.
Understanding my co-workers values and behaviors as
well as my own and the opportunity to decide my
future, and not let it be decided for me. For the
most part, I bought into some of the ones and I
didn’t expect to.
The location, Simon’s energy, and the team
participation were fabulous. Simon worked at
adapting the material as we went along to answer our
questions and concerns about our business. I really
appreciated the exercise we did on writing out our
Vision. Because we were given the time within the
workshop to actually write our Vision, I got it done
– or at least I’m well on my way. I now have my own
Vision for the business for the next three years.

You know how some people who
run their own businesses know that they need to take
the time out to plan the future, but never seem to
find that time or, if they do, they don’t know
“where to start?”
Which means that they just show
up day after day, year after year, working as hard
as they can, but they never seem to make any
progress? And their business is running them, versus
them running their business? Does that sound
familiar?
In fact, sometimes they even
attend specialized workshops where they are shown
what to do, but even then they still don’t find the
time to do it?
Well in working with my
clients, I’ve come to recognize this problem, and I
am very excited to announce that we are presenting
our first ever coaching “annual retreat” to help 20
individuals prepare and plan for the best start to a
new year of business, that they have ever had.
The retreat will be held at, The
Kingfisher Oceanside Resort and Spa from January 11th
– 15th, 2007. This is Vancouver Island’s
Premier Spa and Adventure Resort with awe inspiring
views, gourmet cuisine, and the fabulous Oceanside
Spa with the exclusive Pacific Mist Hydropath. The
location is secluded and the scenery is awe
inspiring and there will only be room for twenty
individuals.
The benefits of which are…
- A facilitated business and
personal planning retreat, working exclusively
with Simon and Laura Reilly on creating and
refining your 3 year vision for you and your
business.
- Taking the materials we
use in our first workshop, we will be working
with you to answer the “3 year question” – “If
we were meeting here, in January 2010 and
looking back over the last 36 months, what would
have to have happened both personally and
professionally for us to be happy with our
progress?”
- This will involve an
examination of your key professional and
personal goals together with a discussion of the
key roles that each of you intends to fulfill
during the period in question.
- We will translate that 3
year vision into a 12 month plan of action –
followed by a further translation into 90 day
goals.
- Our next step will be to
create a Time Management Plan and Calendar for
the Next 12 Months
- Our next step will be to
create the Financial Controls and a 12-month
Cash Flow Forecast leading to accurate and
realistic pricing and activity projections
- Our next step is to
“Breakthrough” all the limitations that have
stopped you in the past and show you a system
that will continue to Inspire you to meet and
exceed your vision and goals.
- Please note that we will
be continuing to refine the components of the
retreat right up until January so we will keep
you posted.
- The format will be
suitable for any business.
- With training in the
mornings, the afternoons are open to work on
your own material with me being on hand to
answer questions and provide you with additional
assistance, then working dinners to discuss
progress each day.
- Benefit to you – a focused
period of planning with one of Canada’s leading
business coaches on hand to guide you along the
way.
No more than 20 people in
attendance – travel to arrive Thursday evening,
leave Monday morning.
- The location is only 2 ½
hours from Vancouver by ferry via Horseshoe Bay
including the drive time. Or you can fly from
Vancouver Airport to Comox Airport, and we will
arrange to have you picked up at the airport and
driven to The Kingfisher Oceanside Resort and
Spa.
- The environment is
inspirational – we have researched our location
carefully to ensure that the standard of
accommodation is superb, whilst allowing you to
“get away from it all” in comfort and in a
location that is truly beautiful.
No interruptions – emergency
contact with family and business – leave the “stuff”
behind and work together on your future plans.
In fact, we are going to make
sure that you have adequate time to spend “alone”,
implementing the ideas we discuss and creating the
finished product that you can take home on Monday.
Our suggested itinerary will
be:
- Thursday evening –
Greetings, introductions and welcome dinner
- Friday morning – coaching
on what has to be achieved and how to do it
- Friday afternoon – private
time (with Simon on hand if you need him)
- Friday evening – informal
working dinner
- Saturday morning –
coaching on progress so far and questions
- Saturday afternoon –
private time (with Simon on hand if you need
him) / Spa Time
- Saturday evening – dinner
at an outside location
- Sunday morning – coaching
on progress so far and questions
- Sunday afternoon – private
time (with Simon on hand if you need him) / Spa

- Sunday evening – working
dinner and open discussion of results
- Monday morning – final
session before departure

“I didn’t know you did that!”
As an example, you may not
know that, on a number of occasions, we have been
invited to coach our client’s family members on
their Career Decisions. Our client’s have also
referred us to their Associates and Friends to work
with them on both business and personal coaching.
While we don’t market ourselves outside of our
niche of Financial Advisors, we are
accepting referrals. We are able to offer Career
Assessments, which are similar to the Values &
Behaviors Assessments that all of our clients have
experienced, but the Career Assessment will outline
Careers and Areas of Strength where a candidate will
be best suited which is helpful in short and long
term career planning.

Reflections …
I’m at press time so to speak
and in the midst of a short week following a long
weekend with the challenge of what to write about in
this section.
Honestly, the challenge is not
about what to write about, the challenge is that I
have far too many articles that are in the final
stages of completion and not quite ready.

The Early
Signs Of The End Of Baby Boomer
Heaven?
This writing was brought about
by reading a colleagues e-newsletter, and Laura and I
just coming off a long weekend in Victoria, BC.
Dear Colleague,
Congratulations on your
decision to stop smoking.
I did it many years ago ... in
fact I quit a few times ... I finally associated
more pain to continuing because it was killing me
... shortness of breath, my lungs felt like they had
knife blades in them every time I coughed and I felt
like sh*t. Smoking rag end Camels didn't help ...
but what the hell, if you are going to smoke you may
as well do a good job of it.
While visiting Starbucks in
Victoria, we were confronted by two not so nice unpleasantries ... one that will hit us Baby
Boomers more and more as we get older ... if it has
not already.
There is a Retirement Home that
is not that far away from the Sacred Ground of the
Hallowed Starbucks where it is Wealthy Baby Boomer
Heaven where all the Chic Baby Boomers go to show
off their Clothes, Watches, Harley Davidsons, Hot
Rods, PowerBooks, I-Pods, Toned 50 + Bodies etc.
Laura & I stopped in to
Starbucks while on one of our power rides on our
bicycles. As we sat outside, I heard
shuffling, coughing and wheezing coming up behind me
and I wondered what the hell is that ... who dares
this on the Sacred Ground of the Hallowed Starbucks
where it is Wealthy Baby Boomer Heaven!
The shuffling, coughing and
wheezing passed me by and it was an 80 year old man,
with extremely bad skin, using a walker, taking very
short steps, coughing and wheezing as he went and he
proceeded to go for the ash trays at the tables,
grabbing an inviting cigarette butt, lighting what
was left of it to get his next nicotine fix ...
coughing and wheezing even more. He sat at a table
asking passers by for cigarettes and he was
fortunate enough to given a few cigarettes to
satisfy his cravings.
Although in pain, the man had
not lost is sense of humor speaking to a Starbucks
patron asking, “ Didn’t I know you in a past life,
and didn’t I lend you $20, and you didn’t pay me
back?”
The first uncomfortable truth
of the pain of addiction stared me right in the
face.
The second uncomfortable truth
is that with 10 million Baby Boomers in Canada, and
75 million Baby Boomers in the United States that
will hit retirement age in the next 10 years, there
are going to be many casualties as there will be many
Boomers
that do not have the wealth, health and / or family
to look after them.
Worse yet, there are those that
choose to indulge and burden themselves with
the short term high from the many indulgences that
include alcohol, nicotine and recreational drugs
compounded by poor health and no exercise, that will
surely create a living hell for themselves and their
families that feel compelled and obligated to look after them. |
