Eliminating Procrastination - Part 1
So you set your 90 day goals on January 1st, 2005 and you did not complete them all.
Perhaps you were procrastinating? So what is procrastination?
The definition is;
- to put off intentionally and habitually
- to put off intentionally the doing of something that should be done
Yet we talked about shoulds.
Your 90 day goals are not shoulds, they are musts.
Procrastination is one of the biggest wastes of time that we have. We are not taking the necessary action towards our 90 day goals. We are also wasting a tremendous amount of time worrying about procrastination and the time that we are wasting. At the same time, we are doing a lot of self loathing for not doing what we had intended to do.
It should be as simple as making up your mind to do it – right?
Yes I know that some tasks may seem unpleasant because we lack the experience, energy and expertise to do them.
Like…writing articles and e-newsletters for instance?
In my past, I lacked a tremendous amount of experience, energy and expertise. I probably still do. But it is not centered on publishing a web site, blog and e-newsletter any more. Now the next challenge for me is to become and expert e-marketer to market my public speaking to promote my web site, blog, e-newsletter, program, and future book.
And if I allow myself the luxury of thinking about it – that I do not have all the experience and expertise, I will not have the energy.
So energy is the first challenge.
I deal with this by taking on my most challenging tasks when I have the most energy, and that is first thing in the morning.
Even for today, on Sunday evening I wrote down a short list of the “First Thing In The Morning Tasks”, that I plan to either get done or take action on this week.
My list is;
- Write Blog
- Write E-Newsletter
- Edit TV Commercial
- Edit Web Site Articles
- Edit Testimonials
- Research, Read & Write Articles relating to the Financial Services Industry
- Read & Train Myself about E-Marketing
What I mean by first thing in the morning is, I get up at 5am. I do an hour of writing. I’m in the gym doing cardio and stretching for 45 minutes and I am either reading or making notes for writing when I am on the exercise bike. If you are committed there is always a way.
Believe me; if you work at taking one step to improve every single day, you will get better and better.
So the key is to take action.
But many don’t. Why?
F.E.A.R. - False Expectations Appearing Real
There are many labels around Fear;
Fear of;
- Abandonment
- Change
- Embarrassment
- Emotional Pain
- Error
- Failing
- Feeling
- Intimacy
- Judgment
- Rejection
- Success
- The Unknown
So Who is afraid of all this stuff anyway?
Who are YOU? The YOU that I want to address are NOT;
- Your Body
- Your Mind
- Your Ego
When I say YOU, I am talking to your Super Conscious Self or your Soul Self. This is the Self that I want you to draw out and to champion.
It is when you are Clear and it is what;
- Guru's call Higher Consciousness
- Biologists call Altered States
- Physiologists call Super-Sentience
- Christians call Answered Prayer
"Divine Revelation simply means adjusting your brain to hear what your heart already knows". "Each of us knows all. We only need to open our minds to hear our own wisdom". - Dan Brown, The Da Vinci Code.
It is not the Super Conscious Self or your Soul Self that is in FEAR.
It is the Dysfunctional part of your Ego that is in FEAR because of it’s unmet needs of worthiness, security, perfection, recognition, power and control.
These unmet needs are the source of all limiting beliefs and fear based emotions and you must invest the time to get your Ego's unmet needs met and clear your Ego's limiting beliefs and Ego's fear based emotions.
The Clearing exercise sure cleanses ones' anger in one hell of a hurry. For the week end my sales resulted in $10,138 commissions pending.
I am reading your blog faithfully and if you can get up at 5:30am so can I. You get so much more done during the time to 5 - 9:30am.
Strange when one goes through the Clearing exercise, I am no longer mad at my manager and see him in a whole new light. My sleep patterns are still wacky but productive is not the word. I sold 5 policies in one afternoon which I have never done before in my career. Now the challenge is paperwork!

Here is an excerpt from my Blog, March 19, 2005 - Counter balance fear with vision
Here are a few segments of an article from Saturday’s Vancouver Sun about The Power Within Seminar that was at the Vancouver Trade & Convention Centre on Friday, March 19, 2005.
Notable speakers included Mark Burnett and Dr. Phil McGraw.
People need vision, Burnett said, but shouldn’t get caught up in being certain about success, because those who need certainty never act. And in crafting a vision, “you might as well think big and massive and scared.”
Fear, said McGraw, is humankind’s biggest motivator. People base many of life’s decisions, even if it’s to take no action, to avoid being afraid.
A few thoughts come to mind …
As John Kehoe said in his book, Mind Power– “Thoughts are real forces”.
People have to get that they must clear their fear and limiting beliefs because they will continually attract the evidence, the result, and the experience, based upon what they believe.
I believe that one will also counter balance fear by continuing to focus on a big vision that is based upon values, positive beliefs and feelings - Simon
Stay tuned for more in the next issue.
“Fear knocked at the door, and faith answered, and no one was there”.
