BNN Investors’ Survey

November 18, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

BNN DROPThis BNN Survey sponsored by Standard Life provides some excellent information.

The recession has rattled investors’ faith in stocks and in their investment advisors, according to an exclusive and revealing survey conducted for BNN this fall. The survey, sponsored by Standard Life, polled more than 1,000 active and passive investors across the country between October 8th and 14th.

BNN AdviceHere are some of the key findings:

The events of the last year have made many investors uncertain about investing in stocks compared to other options such as bonds or real estate. There is faith in the markets but there is uncertainty as to whether stocks are really the best place to invest. Half of retail investors have invested less in the markets than they otherwise would. That said most expect their investments to make solid gains over the next 12 months.

Financial planners, advisors and brokers have taken a hit to their reputations over the events of the last year, but a small one. Many investors still have confidence in the services they receive.

You have a whole two weeks to go before the excuse of; you are too busy To Do Your Planning & Goals Setting For 2010 in December because you have too many Christmas and Holiday Parties to go to. The sad part about these parties is you might not come off your alcohol and food hang over until sometime in the New Year. So, now is the time!

On my end, the start to my 2010 Planning & Goal Setting was sparked by making a list of things that I can quit.

From this empty space, ideas started coming to me like;

Asking my Centers Of Influence for referrals to Centers Of Influence in the USA. God Bless Canada, but it is really hard to niche market in a country that is 5000 kilometres wide by 2.5 cm high … meaning our population is strung along the USA boarder, so why not go down there! At the same time, we Canadians are such a conservative lot, most don’t like change. Guess what, things may not change a lot in the next few years so the only answer is to change from within.

Here are some ideas to help you to get started with Planning & Goals Setting For 2010;

A Strong Start To 2009

How Consumers Have Cut Back

how consumers cut backThis Ipsos/Reuters poll demonstrates how consumers have cut back over the past 18 months in the new economy.

This is good news for financial advisors as it demonstrates that consumers can cut back on the following to allow them the room to invest in their financial future.

At the same time, it might remind financial advisors to invest in their own education because they are no different than their clients that need someone from the outside to help them to change their behaviours for the better.

The Only Swine Are The Government And The Media

The only thing that is going to make me sick is constantly hearing conflicting information about H1N1 … and I am so sick of it.

No sooner do I read good news like this headline and very promising article by Tom Blackwell in the Friday, November 6th edition of The National Post; H1N1 Nears Peak: Experts – Dreaded Second Wave Has Been Fairly Mild

van sun h1 n1Then an article like this comes out on the front page of The Vancouver Sun on Saturday, November 7th; H1N1 It Will Get Worse which could set off my jelly fish of a fear based ego mind into convincing me to get into a huge plastic bag.

Fear is a natural and important response for survival. But fear can also become a harmful emotion when it causes us to act irrationally. When we allow fear to control our lives, we see things differently, we’re more cautious and more timid, or we overreact to situations in ways that can be harmful to ourselves and others. - Robert Alan
