I’m devoting December, in fact my first devotion since November 13th which is when we left for Mexico has been to knowing or what some call being versus doing.
It is not to say that I am sitting in my lawn chair naval gazing … on the contrary, we have 25% more clients than the same time last year and new clients are coming in.
What I am saying is I have been doing less creative projects and more being and this where I wish to invest the rest of the year.
I feel like have been a human doing this year and while blessed with many successes, it is time to be more being until the end of the year especially as the 5th year anniversary of moving to Parksville on Vancouver Island on January 19th, 2006 approaches.
There are still loads that I can do and if there is too much do, then one can go the way of the dodo and become extinct of energy, ideas and inspiration.
Not that there is a lack of inspiration … I’m holding back on the how, when, where, who and why and taking time to reflect on the what of my dreams for the next 3 to five years.
As a Behavioural Analyst, the very first step of my coaching process with my one on one telephone clients is to provide them with assessments of their values and behaviours.
Values are why we do what we do and behaviours are how we do it.
Most people don’t know what their values and behaviours are and given this, they are often adapting their values and behaviours which are unsustainable over an extend period of time and the adapting will lead to burn out because they often get sucked into the unmet needs disease.
Unresolved unmet needs drive negative beliefs and negative emotions which kill values.
Values inspire positive beliefs and positive feelings and fuel the vision, business plan and 90 day goals.
Unresolved unmet needs will suck you right into the black whole of negative beliefs and negative emotions.
There are four different behavioural styles and here are their strengths:
We all have a combination of these different behavioural styles and strengths in our make up.
The trick is to understand the strengths alongside of the primary orientation + attitude towards change:
Dominance – task/challenge + loves it
Influencers – people, social recognition+ takes no notice of it
Steadiness – people, traditional practices + doesn’t not like it, needs preparation
Compliance – task, quality, performing to a standard + concerned of the effects of change
My style is a rare combination of high Dominance and high Compliance and I have been adapting to high Dominance and high Compliance since August of 2008 when I received word that I would be speaking at the MDRT Annual Meeting in April 2010 in Vancouver.
I am spending the rest of the year in being high Compliance investing the strengths of precise, perfectionist, orderly, diplomatic, accurate, meticulous to inspire what I want to do and then I can turn on with the doing of high Dominance strengths of Bold, pioneering, competitive, driving, direct, determined once the how, when, where, who and why are in place … for now what is important is being in the what.
Yesterday’s blog included; “Dream big and forget the how, when, where, who and why at this state and all that matters is; what are your biggest dreams?”

“To help you have the true perspective of creation, no matter how big your desire may seem to you, think of it as the size of a dot! You may want a house, car, vacation, money, the perfect partner, your dream job or children. You may want to receive full health in your body. You may want to pass exams, get into a particular college, break a world record, become president, a successful actor, lawyer, writer, or teacher. It doesn’t matter what it is you want, think of it as the size of a dot, because for the force of love, what you want is smaller than a dot!”

In advance writing the steps to creating a vision, business plan and 90 days for 2011 I’m blogging about creating the foundation and one of the biggest is forget urgency.
Dream big and forget the how, when, where, who and why at this stage and all that matters is; what are your biggest dreams?
The first step is to know what your biggest dreams are and then the actions relating to the how, when, where, who and why.
The only urgency should be writing your dreams down.
My friend Debra introduced me to the Four Years Go Campaign with the following video post on Facebook. I was lucky enough to see the Art & Copy documentary by Doug Pray which is about the creative genius about the real Mad Men in the advertising industry and here is a quote from the following trailer.

Empty Your Mind – March 19, 2010
The first 90 days of 2010 draws to a close on March 31st … time to start creating 90 day goals for April 1st to June 3oth.
Before you do this, make the commitment to Empty Your Mind before the end of the month so that you can create the space to write your 90 day goals.
Using Microsoft Excel as an example;
1. Type in every idea, project, task, and “to-do” – line by line until you empty your mind. I do this on a weekly basis and I review the following areas for info;
Business plan
Documents that I have created in the last week in Excel, Mind Genius, Word etc.
E-Mail – incoming
Files
Loose paper notes on my desk – file them at the same time
Notes in my Journal
Maximizer or Outlook – or the CRM system that you are using
Open documents on my computer desk top
Smartphone notes
Sticky notes – if you use them – I don’t
2. Next, review the following categories and ask what other project areas come to mind and add them to this list; administration, computers / systems, customer service, financial, marketing, office management, planning, product development, production, sales, team building and training. You can also include areas for your personal life that include; auto, clothing, home, health, hobby, intellectual, relationships; family, friends, spouse, spirituality
3. Next, in a separate column in Excel, type in the category that each idea, project, task and “to-do” belongs to
4. Next, sort the ideas, projects, tasks and to-do’s alphabetically by category
5. Next, using another column in Microsoft Excel, prioritize by A – must be done before X date then, by B, & C priority
6. Next, using another column, identify what can be delegated and meet with your team with written instructions
7. Next, schedule your A priorities and take action
iOrganized Versus iOverwhelmed – September 20, 2010
While my iPhone is the best piece of technology that I have ever used, I’m finding that it has accelerated the new ideas that come into my consciousness by what feels like tenfold.
Like most entrepreneurs my jobs include being the long term visionary, planner, and scheduler for projects that include computer systems, customer service, finances, marketing, offices, products, sales and team.
At the same I am the coach, facilitator, speaker and writer and I am always looking for new material to keep things fresh.
If you are like me, you could find yourself feeling overwhelmed after a strong week of business with potential loose ends hiding in CRM software, documents, e-mail software, files, journal, mind maps and notes. To remedy this I created a system to Empty My Mind.
Friday marked a milestone because I saved myself hours to Empty My Mind because;
I had been using Evernote over the course of last week to instantly capture new ideas in the form of blogs, e-mails, newsletters, PDFs, pictures, web sites and videos all in one place
I’m excited that on this Friday Buffer Day, I am going to Empty My Mind ( in other words, debrief my week ) using Dragon Naturally Speaking Voice Recognition Software Version 11.0 combined with a Plantronics Calisto Headset with Bluetooth.
The Sony MP3 Recorder and Dragon will help to produce financial advisor speaking and investment advisor speaking presentation transcriptions and excerpts of these will no doubt find their way into future articles, blogs and e-newsletters.
Dragon will also be used when I am on the phone with my clients to transcribe what I say when I am on the phone. The transcriptions can be used as a value add for my clients and again, excerpts of these will no doubt find their way into future articles, blogs and e-newsletters.
I’ve been using Evernote over the last two weeks which is saving me hours and hours with organization.
Evernote and Dragon are going to magnify my focus and productivity tenfold.
